If ever I've read a classic love story, this book was it! A prince, a duchess and an ordinary southern girl from Georgia....a true fairy tale!Susanna Truitt had a plan for her life. She had worked for years on her dream of being a landscape architect, and waited diligently for her boyfriend of 12 years to return from the Marine's in hopes of a marriage proposal. But all of those dreams shattered to pieces when Adam broke her heart instead of asking for her hand in marriage. He said he found the right ring but not the right girl. Susanna was devastated. Her plan was ruined.Shortly after, Susanna meets Nathaniel, a sweet foreigner who comes to her rescue on the side of the road. Their friendship quickly grows into a love for one another even though neither one will admit it. But unbeknownst to Susanna, Nathaniel is actually a prince from Brighton! After learning Nathaniel's true identity, Susanna begins pushing him away, insisting that their worlds are entirely different. Even if Susanna did move to Brighton to be with Nathaniel, it would be against the law to marry him. After the passing of Nathaniel's father, Nathaniel is forced to return home to assume responsibility of King. Susanna was stunned to learn that she had been invited to his coronation. Surely King Nathaniel wouldn't abdicate the throne for her sake? But what other reason would he have for inviting her? Will Susanna go to the coronation?I absolutely loved this book from the very beginning! It's truly a classic love story. Perhaps a little predictable at times, but the last few chapters did leave me guessing up until the very end! I also loved that this love story is based on Christian principals and includes many Bible references and prayers. Quite a bit different from most secular love stories, but I would feel completely comfortable letting my daughters read this one! :)I rate this book as 5 stars! I received this book free form Litfuse to give my honest unbiased opinion.Check out the other reviews on this Blog tour! http://litfusegroup.com/author/rhauck

29-year-old Susanna Truitt had a plan, until that got derailed. See, she's the doormat in the relationship. For twelve years, Susanna had waited and waited for her soldier guy, Adam, to propose. How heartbreaking, then, when he tells her he's gotten the "right ring but not the right girl." Yeah, they break up.So this day, whatever day this is in July, is the worst day AND the best day of Susanna's life. Worst day: she gets dumped. But best day: she meets Nate. On the side of the road, her small, green Cabrio down with a flat tire.Over the next few days she runs into Nate Kenneth a time or three. Maybe it's because they're on an island and there are only so many places. Susanna lives on sun-kissed St. Simons Island, off Georgia. What else about Susanna? She's a landscape architect, which is a shaky career to have, what with the crap economy forcing everyone to pinch pennies. She also covers shifts at her family's business, the Rib Shack bistro. Some spoilers. What she doesn't know yet - but you and I know from jump - is that Nate is actually crown prince to a European island kingdom in the North Sea and formally styled Prince Nathaniel Henry Kenneth Mark Stratton, descendant of a 500-year-old royal family tree.Nathaniel is on holiday on St. Simons Island with his aide and his security officer, three grown men residing in a hundred-year-old cottage. Nathaniel suspects this may be the last carefree vacay for some time. His father, the king, is failing in health, succumbing to leukemia. The diagnosis is he won't last a year, after which Nathaniel will have to step in his shoes. In the meantime, he means to make the most of what independence he has left.Once Upon A Prince is first in Rachel Hauck's addictive Royal Wedding series. I'm no swooning spinster or some ponce. I am a rugged hombre, and yet, for the past few weeks, I've been on this binge-reading spree where I've been splitting superhero prose and romances involving royals. I read Once Upon A Prince in one go. I dig how dense and rich the narrative is. It's my first Rachel Hauck book, and absolutely not my last. She knows how to spin a yarn, how to weave in background detail and history in a way that augments the story. I love that Susanna is this lively southern girl, and I love her colorful family and friends, with an extra nod to her wilful mama, her 17-year-old sparkplug of a sister Avery, and Aurora, the homeless ex-politico clairvoyant. The island kingdom of Brighton easily piqued my curiosity, Hauck describes it so warmly and lovingly. To Susanna, Brighton seems full of enchantment, especially at Christmastime. To spice up the suspense, Hauck introduces a political muddle in the shape of the approaching end of Brighton's century-old entailment with the Grand Duchy of Hessenberg. This coming event has raised an uproar, what with warring opinions on the merits and flaws of an independent Hessenberg and the need to liberate Brighton from decades of bailing out Hessenberg from financial hardship. But here's the pickle: Unless Hessenberg can find an heir when the entailment ends, the duchy will become a permanent part of Brighton and Brighton becomes permanently accountable for Hessenberg's debts. The one panacea is for Nathaniel to marry the gorgeous Lady Genevieve Hawthorne, a daughter of Hessenberg, after which she becomes a royal heir and Hessenberg thus gains its independence.Thing is, marrying Lady Genevieve is the farthest thing from Nathaniel's mind. On St. Simons Island, off Georgia, he's fallen for our southern girl, so much so that he's volunteered to work at her family's Rib Shack.- Nathaniel's aide: "Nathaniel, you're the crown prince. You don't need to wait tables at an American barbecue bistro."- Nathaniel: "I'm not waiting tables. I'm scrubbing floors and cleaning toilets."- Nathaniel's aide (swearing): "The King's Office will have my job if they get wind of this.""I'm Susanna Truitt, born on St. Simons, for some purpose. I'm not an accident." Susanna is at the crossroads. She'd just had her heart shattered. Is she ready to take a chance again? This being my first Rachel Hauck book, the author's emphasis on faith comes unexpectedly. Gratifyingly, she shies away from a heavy-handed approach. Susanna - and Nathaniel's - abiding faith is expressed in heartfelt and moving ways. Man, I really enjoyed reading this one. Hauck also has a knack for quirk and levity. Check out this book to see how smoothly she works in a pair of Christian Louboutin shoes and an engagement tailgate party. And, yes, this would make an awesome Hallmark movie. With Maggie Lawson at the lead. Because I'm crushing on her.

What a fun, dreamy story! This is a great story to read and escape into another world of love and adventure.Susanna Truitt moves back to her home on St. Simon's Island when her job in Atlanta ends. As the story begins, her longtime boyfriend, Adam, is home from a tour with the Marines. They are meeting on the beach and she is expecting a proposal but all she gets is a breakup. She throws herself into trying to get her job as a landscape architect going and also helps out with her family's restaurant, the Rib Shack.Prince Nathaniel of the Kingdom of Brighton is spending vacation time at his family's American vacation cottage. He and Susanna met near Lover's Oak in nearby Brunswick when she is trying to get a shady looking man to leave her alone. She is stuck with a flat tire where she had hoped that Adam would propose to her. Nathaniel comes along and helps her out.Later Nathaniel and Susanna would see each other at a fundraiser for the hospital right after she gets a call that her father has been taken to the hospital. Nathaniel once more steps up to help her. This time he gets her to the hospital. At this point, she doesn't know that he is a prince. The two are drawn to each other and but there are obstacles to prevent their happily ever after. His country does not allow a royal to marry a person from another country. Susanna has her commitments as well helping her family with the restaurant and she is very close to her parents and sister. The wonderful thing that Susanna and Nathaniel have in common is their faith as they work through their situation is relying on God's guidance. This is another inspiring and great story of faith and love by Rachel Hauck.
