So I REALLY REALLY REALLY wanted to love this deck. Props where they are due: I was thrilled by the packaging, quality of cards and book. JHigh Quality and innovative box design. 5 Stars for packaging. 5 stars to Esther for her Tarot Meanings. The book is very well written and the quality of the pages and binding are also superb. Sadly the stars stop there. Thus the low rating. Becasue, after all, after 40 years of reading Tarot and many many decks in my collection, I didn't pay big bucks for the book and packaging. I wanted to READ with these. With Clients and/or myself. The artist is talented, no doubt. But there lacked a deep understanding of the Tarot as the imagery and meaning often clashed. The art itself seemed to fight its way off the cards, each color and shape vying for attention so that the whole card became a riot of colors and shapes and the feeling was not friendly or inviting. I own the The Day of the Dead Deck, and Tatoo Tarot, so I'm not afraid of dark imagery, but there needs to be coherence. Place them next to one another and it's a neon art factory with so much packed on to one card that it's a headache. My teen daughter and dear friend who also excitedly sat with me opening the deck were of the same opinion. In some cases had the artist simply enlarged the main character (see the Starman image on the box? Imagine if the card had been cropped like that, the face and torso, not an entire image of shape color and alien writing and on and on). But there were other challenges with this deck. Many times the main characters seemed forced rather than owing their status. Their backgrounds commanded more attention than they did. In other cases the image was just not in keeping with the intended meaning. The slashed up and bloody prince of cups standing with his silent rebel yell but not much else to make you see he had a hero potential. Then you look in the book and see that the writer of the meanings described beautifully what the Prince should stand...worlds apart from the image you are looking at. It's as if the artist and the writer did not have the same interpretation. The cards seem to be desperate to say something...struggling more to be cool than meaningful. They needed editing. The Kings face (many of the faces) are marred by lines drawn over the features. There is no warmth and indulgence with the King of Cups! He seems just as remote as all the other characters that show up. You don't get a sense of moving from the four elements, nor intellect to emotion to passion, nor the journey the Fool takes. They all seem like razor sharp characters waiting to consume you in their own indulgences. The three of us were so very disappointed. THAT said, I believe if the artist was willing to introduce feelings of compassion, fear, sorrow, loss, balance, hope, and support into an otherwise intimidating set of characters then their next Tarot collaboration would be AMAZING. My friend summed it up perfectly, 'maybe the artist needed to make this an oracle deck because I don't feel Tarot was quite understood.' I'm still shaking my head. I really want to love these cards.

I have to ding this for the poor quality card stock. You have to be extremely delicate shuffling the cards or they will bend. *What’s the point of a tarot deck you can’t shuffle?*The artwork is definitely beautiful and there is a lot here to work with, which makes it all the MORE disappointing it’s on such poor stock. Surely you could have spent less money on the box presentation and used it for better stock?This should be priced at least $10 less because of the disappointing stock. I’m really driving that point home but that’s because it is SUCH a disappointment.

The artwork is very nice...busy but nice. However, the BOOK BINDING IS HORRIBLE! It is SO tight that you have to squash the book flat to read the end of the sentences. Also the glue has leaked into the pages in some areas so that when you try to pry them apart, the page is damaged. Having to fight this book in order to read it makes this a loser in my mind. Looks like the money went into the box and not the quality of the binding or the cards. Thumbs down.

Pros: The artwork on the cards is spectacular. No borders on the cards really allows the artwork to shine.The box the cards come in is gorgeous. Heavy and the design is pure David Bowie gloriousI wasn't expecting a book with the cards and while I haven't taken a deep dive into the material, the book is almost two hundred pages long and every card is pictured in the book with at least a page or better description of the card and it's meaning.Love the deck. I cannot wait to spend some time getting to know it.Cons: The cards are flimsy. I compared them to my other decks and the cardstock used is noticeably thinner than the cards in my other decks. Considering the quality of the deck, the book, and the box, I was a little surprised that they chose to use substandard cardstock.The back image on the cards is disappointingly bland. Again, surprising considering how remarkable all the artwork on the cards.Still, I decided to go with a five star rating because I would buy again and would recommend the deck to my friends. Maybe in future editions they will upscale the cardstock.

Like most reviewers, I cannot fault the art, I purchased them just for that reason. It's bold and vibrant, and just a bit dark. However, I've had playing cards thicker than these. I mean, given their size, they're too unwieldy to properly shuffle, and I don't have particularly small hands.So, in summary:Better cardstock.Make them half an inch smaller.

I love this deck and book. I purchased one to keep and one to use. The art is gorgeous and the book is truly a gift. However the card stock is flimsy and the cards a big for a lady's hand. With the deck being so big and flimsy, I will have to be very careful using them. People in the tarot community have been dealing with cheap card stock for some time. Trouble using these cards is known. I still gave it 5 stars as the beauty and link to Bowie are worth it. Buy an extra set for keeps and one for use. Maybe later editions can be made on better paper stock. I wanted to come back and edit. I have large decks and a collection and decks I've used since the 1980"s. It isn't so much that the deck is large it's the card stock making it hard to shuffle as it is so thin and bendy. The book binding is also cheap and cracks when opened. I don't know how long it will last intact. Please put out another edition of cards and book with better stock and binding. I would buy it. Now it is more of a collector item for me.

Good information, easy to understand. Only reason for 4 stars is at this point it is starting to be a little bit dated since the book is from 2001. ex. this book says not to feed raw meat or bone. However, most things about ferret care don't change, and overall it was very helpful.

I am a Professional Pet Sitter and I bought this book to learn more about Ferrets. I was a little disappointed that there wasn't more information.

This book had a lot of good information in it but, wished it would have a little more involving how to litter train.

Not a ferret owner yet! I found this to be very informative and lots of good advice. I do believe this helped me to take excellent care when I do get one. I personally want to thank the author!

The author has highlighted some interesting things to look out for while caring for a pet ferret. I enjoyed reading about the common behaviors of pet ferrets that may appear strange to new owners as well as the chapter on what to look out for when planning the diet of your pet ferret.

This book was good information and of course great subject. We love our 5 ferrets.

Linda Grenz is an Episcopal priest, and director of a consulting and publishing/educational organization based in Massachusetts. She also teaches Christian education at General Theological Seminary, the Episcopal seminary in New York City.The first chapter gives quick summaries of each of the other volumes - these are largely the same blurbs as occur on the backs of the books, with a few sentences on the authors' biographies, and a listing of chapters.Following this information, Grenz writes about the different uses for series for particular audiences. The first broad heading is for education and formation groups: these may include youth groups, adult education groups, bible study groups, catechism and inquirer classes, and more. The second broad heading is for ministry and interest groups: these include groups around various ministry roles (lay readers, vestries, etc.) as well as committees, choirs and outreach. There is a nice two-page chart on pages 46-47 to show which books serve best with particular types of groups.As a Christian educator, Grenz doesn't stop with simple book selection and recommendation. Great read of the mysticism of the Inca, and an underlying theory of how to decode myths from oral cultures. Great research and presentation that takes you on the authors journey of discovery while it also teaches you about the discoveries and what they mean. Lots of great insight here, and I feel like I learned not only about the Inca, but a number of other cultures and topics as well (some of the lessons and metaphors of this book are easily applied to other traditions as well).Lots of information here, so I could see some people having a little trouble making it all the way through the book. Some of the astronomy was a bit over my head, as I am not used to many of the terms used, but the author explained things well enough that I could understand most of it regardless of my inexperience with astronomy.I sometimes lead group trips to Peru to see Machu Pichu and other ruins, and I will hopefully be reading this book a second time before my next visit in a few months - a lot of this information will be very helpful in understanding some of the ruins and myths more deeply!

This book is every bit as entertaining as the run-of-the-mill speculative/paranormal UFO-from-Atlantis books with which it is unfortunately cross-listed on Amazon, but the author's scholarly rigor makes it much more satisfying. Sullivan supports his fascinatingly unconventional conclusions with evidence, sound reasoning, and a bit of self-critical skepticism.But the real charm of this book is the fact that he pursued such a crazy theory in the first place. Behind the scholarship is a "guy-with-a-crazy-dream" human-interest story (e.g. Fitzcarraldo, Field of Dreams). This would make perfect film material for Werner Herzog. To hear the author tell it, he spent several years in the academic wilderness (as well as the Andean wilderness), chasing after the (wholly-unsupported) hypothesis that Incan myth encodes both astronomy and Andean history. To his advisers, this must have sounded a lot like writing a grant to study the pyramids of Mars. For a lesser intellect, this would have been a career-killer and the reader gets the sense that Sullivan knew it. One of the best parts of the book recounts Sullivan's meeting with Owen Gingerich and "the Vatican Astronomer" at the Harvard planetarium. He's clearly terrified that these eminent astronomers will think he's a kook. But when they conclude: "he's done his homework," Sullivan breathes a sigh of relief.A word of warning: get the hardback. I got the paperback edition and the binding was defective and the first 50 pages fell out the first time I read them.

A must read if you are open to expanding your "truths'. Something tells me the author uses more of his brain than the average human.

Reads like a text book at times but it has much detailed info on pre Columbian myths and archae-atronomy. Because I live in the southern hemisphere it's easy for me to identify the stars and dark regions of the milky way discussed in the book and I can see first hand how the myths originated and developed up until the conquest.An absorbing read.

The book provides much information about the Incas, citing astronomy and influence of this in their myths. The book is very good, although it could work more the influence of the Spanish on what we know today about their myths.

The book examines Inka and Mayan myths using a variety of tools, and many, many words. To the first myth the book applies the theories in Hamlets Mill to explain why the Foxes tail is black and pinpoint AD 650 as the rise of warfare in the Andes. From here it's mostly downhill.The book then drags us through his own internal mental processes of doubt and disbelief as we look at other myths. Through this long process we are subjected to forceful and unnecessary biases such as there is no proof that a matriarchal society ever existed anywhere in the world. Period. He returns to the subject of matriarchal disbelief many times calling it a big 'red flag'. We are lead through the authors admitted internal stubborness of this and many other issues.Although I believe the book is correct in it's assocation with the Fox's tail being black being a celestial event ala Hamlets Mills, we spend so many words looking at other myths from a plethora of angles that we are forced into a single conclusion. That no one outside of a culture has any clue at what a given myth really means. The entire book is like running naked through the forest yelling out conclusions about myths which rightly are interpreted only by their creators.At one point in the discussion of 'finding father' we hear a claim that the Andean man lacked a true heart with the ability to love while he was primarily a hunter within a matrilinear horticultural society. Andean man only gained his heart and full ability to love when the culture changed to fully agriculture and he had to stay at home with the wife and kids. Give me a break. To any Andean person alive this is rubbish. What kinds of conclusions and judgements can we make living outside the cultural box. It is this kind of subtle talk that is a jaguars hair short of prejudice and racism.Ultimately, although if you like reading from the 'academic' view, this book does lead you through enough alleys to make you feel like the author knows what he is talking about, ultimately it fails from it's biases and from being rooted in a combination of sexism and western scientific dogma.If the book you to really understand the Andean mind then the author would have had to undergo a process of breaking open his head and surrendering to the mystery of myth rather than trying to break open the myths using the rational mind. Myth is mythic. A view which ultimately escapes the author. It might be worth it to take this book on if you have a university paper to write. It will certainly scintillate your professor being of the same vocabulary and possibly biases. But if you are looking to expanding your understanding of the Inka or Andean cultures from a spiritual or mythic perspective then look elsewhere. Get yourself to South America, Peru, spend time with the shamans. Then you can learn what myth is really about. And how it lives today.

I have waited several months to post this review after I was able to use the book frequently and give a fair opinion. I work in the health care field and needed to learn surgical instrument names. At first I loved the book. I loved how it was broken down into sections by surgical specialty. This did make it a little easier for me to find instruments as I knew what specialty I needed to look at. The close up pictures of the tips of instruments made it easier to distinguish similar instruments from each other. I also like the "also know as" names as not everyone calls instruments by the same name. The use section also gave a good description.I gave this book 3 stars as it simply did not contain enough instrument variety for the purpose I needed. I had to use multiple other sources to learn the instrument names and categories. Because I feel the book only contains the most basic instruments I would be very hesitant to recommend it to someone who needs a resource for a wide variety of instruments.

Each page contains one or two instruments with large, detailed photos, the name of the instrument (including the nicknames), uses of the instrument, as well as key information about the instrument.The CD that comes with the book allows students to interact with the instruments, in addition to a digital instrument image library, audio pronunciations, and exercises (drop-and-drag, timed audio identification, flash card exercises). To assist educators, all images are downloadable for use in lectures, handouts and exams.With the high-quality photos and interactive exercises, your institution will not have to budget thousands of dollars for instrument sets used for demonstration only.

The book itself is very helpful and full of all the instrumentation an OR nurse/tech would need to learn HOWEVER, the accompanying CD is an older software and doesn't work on a Mac computer. I was really disappointed about that since it would be a great help in learning if I had that computer interaction.

Very good resource for a surgical technology student. The pictures are very clear, and the details of every instrument are magnified in the photos. A must-have.

The author wrote it well with clear inside knowledge but with rose colored glasses. McDonough's facts were clearly outlined and spoke to the mounting issues of ACA in 2017. Within two paragraphs, it was clear ACA was underfunded from the start and a ticking time bomb from 2017 through 2020. Anyone interested in learning about ACA from a historical perspective should put this on their short list.

The ACA (or Obamacare, whatever you choose to call it) is probably one of the most important and controversial topic of discussion in this decade, especially as the country gears up for the next election. A lot has been said about it in the news, discussions, expert opinions etc. As each political party blames the other for things that could've been done better, its important to understand the political process that went behind creation and passing of the bill. I think this book does a great job in explaining that process. I dont have any political affiliations so cant comment on the author's bias. If you are just getting to learn about reforms, and want to read about the history, this is perfect. However, if you are looking for a critique on the reform, you should look elsewhere. Also, if you are looking for a quick read, look elsewhere. This one needs a pretty high level of interest in understanding the political process.

An excellent book -- very simply, the absolutely best single introduction to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act that has yet been written. The author was there when the law was written, and he has told us the whole story of how it came to be, so that we can understand why it is so complex, and yet so incomplete. The chapter by chapter dissection of each Section of the Act is absolutely invaluable for anyone who must really understand it in all its detail, and must actually try to work with it. I cannot recommend this book too highly if you are tired of political trash talk from both sides, and just want to know what ObamaCare is and is not.

Inside National Health Reform offers an uncommon combination of both the political process and policy substance of the Affordable Care Act. From his unique perspective, John McDonough provides a first-hand, thoughtful account of the politics surrounding health reform, and supplies the context for how our health care system, and its many problems, came to be. Further, McDonough's thorough and balanced description of the provisions included in the ACA go far to educate readers on the substance and potential implications of the new law, written in both an entertaining and accessible way. Segal, of course, was a gifted author. I've read several of his books and rank them against each other. Perhaps that's unfair since he's far better than most other contemporary authors. Nevertheless, compared to some of his other books, I would cite these flaws: He uses many obscure "highbrow" words unnecessarily. Since the entire story deals with Harvard and it's graduates, he may have felt that readers would enjoy language that fits the tone of that institution. He develops thoroughly likable characters, then creates a scenario for each that effectively ruins their lives. At the end, he offers a philosophical ending where an uplifting conclusion would serve the reader better. The book is absolutely worth reading, however, especially for people interested in Harvard, and the lives of her graduates.

This book is my all time favorite. I read it the first time in high school I think. I was drawn to its subject matter of Harvard, but then, I grew to love the characters. They are passionate, talented, successful, and yet true happiness eludes most of them. A great fiction with historical connections to the second half of the 20th century, the book calls me back to be reread every several years.

This is pretty typical (somewhat trite) Segal fare. Good for a weekend at the beach or as a way to pass the time on a flight.

Another Segal accomplishment. Well thought-out characters that endure the trials of of the sixties and seventies including anti Semitism and the Vietnam War. You will applaud their accomplishments and feel their heartache.

I read the book. That was enough waste of my time.

Like all his book this is a real reading pleasure.

Enjoyed this interesting story of 5 men in the 1958 graduating class of Harvard University. Through these five lives, Sagal draws us in to social, academic, romantic, musical and political spheres of the 50's, 60's,70's. Great summer read, especially for the reader who lived through these tumultuous times.
