As both a mom to an (almost) 3 year old daughter with autism & an Early Childhood Educator, I highly recommend this book! My daughter struggles most with communication due to her autism, so I am always looking for books to help promote her speech, and this is one of our favorites! She loves sheep (after her speech regression between 13-15 months of age, at around age 2, baaa-baaa was one of the first things she started consistently saying again), so I thought this book would catch her attention. The book rhymes, & is catchy; I memorized this one after only having read it a couple times. We read it one day when her SLP was over for speech therapy, & she really liked the book, too. It offers a lot of opportunities to emphasize words, which is a strategy we use often to try & promote speech with my daughter. The book is also very silly, & will leave adults & children giggling all the way through!

I enjoyed reading Sheep Go to Sleep with my 1 year old and looked for others in the collection to get for him. I got this one and Sheep on a Ship. Did not like Sheep on a Ship very much. This one was ok. The wording is a bit choppier and shorter than Sheep Go to Sleep, so that's a downside. Illustrations have similar quality and it is still a short/quick read for a small child. Sheep Go to Sleep is a more obvious choice for bedtime, but this one will do.

This book is very simple. I thought it would be more like a story, but it's just quick sentences that rhyme. Like "Jeep in a Heap. Sheep Weep." I personally thought my 2 year old would think this book would be boring due to how simple it is, but he LOVES it! He laughs and thinks they are so silly! One of his favorites! Who knew!? Would recommend! Kids enjoy it! :)

A Hilarious and wonderfully illustrated book! First in a series of sheep-shenanigan books by the same author.The first time it was read to me (by my daughter-in-law over a video call from half-way around the planet) I laughed so hard I cried.Now it is my go-to gift book for kids and grandkids.

Just be warned, you have to have a sense of humor when you read this book, because your child, toddler, will ask you to read it about 50 times a day. And you will by surprised one day as your children get older that you can actually forget the text. And you will feel sad that moment has passed. This is a book fundamental to your child's growth and is just a hoot to read.

A witty story in a few simple words about some ditzy sheep on an adventure. The story is accurately attached to the delightful illustrations. I give this book at every baby shower, and hope the babies will love it as much as I do.

NSTA (National Science Teacher's association) has a lesson that goes with this book - which involves tiny plastic sheep and jeeps. (The sheep are in my other reviews.)The book is aimed as a read-aloud for small children, but the force and motion concepts (Sheep-belts, anyone?) go beyond the basic rhyme.Colorful, cute pictures. Love this one.

Got this for my 1 year old nephew and once I got it and read it, I was not impressed. I love jeeps and I love my jeep and all this story does is make it sound like jeeps are crappy. I complained about that specifically and they gave me a prepaid label to return it.

The Lean Strategy has become my lean bible in terms of inspiration: I always go back to it, read it again, underline it and take examples as exercises to put in practice.The privilege to be able to read how a company has passed trough difficult times, the guidance of the sensei, the questions around - you can almost feel you're with them, at the gemba - it and how decisions (strategy!) were taken to successfully overcome it, is just priceless!Thank you so much to the authors!

I have been practicing lean since 1995. I was fortunate to have been exposed to Japanese Sensei from the start. From those early lessons I learned the key to successfully applying lean is people. These examples show how the intersection of people and principles moved these organizations. Too often books about lean are heavily weighted around the understanding and use of tools, neglecting the importance of the people within the organization. This book is a great example of how balance in the two areas, people and principles, can be the difference between another failed deployment and lasting success. Thank you, Michael, Daniel, Orry and Jacques!

The biggest gap to Lean Transformation in most organizations is due to lack of leadership. This, I have found, is not due to lack of interest or effort, but understanding of their role and the benefit Lean brings to the entire organization, including the bottom line. This book is a tremendous resource for leaders at all levels, but especially the Executive team. The book's helpful overview of the entire "Lean Business System" and still detailed explanation of the principles (such as "people centric organization) make this a must read for any Lean Leader and those wishing to influence them

Kept reading this book, hoping to find the part where the concepts of lean would be translated into strategy. Never found it. It reads like a basic explanation of lean at the manufacturing operations level - and a poor one at that. If you believe that the basic function of a strategy is to determine where you will compete and how you will win with the resources available to you, then you’ll find this book to be very poor too.

Even as she gives us a window into Vietnamese history and culture, the author very candidly depicts how at the core we humans have so much in common, as we all struggle to live in an uncertain world while holding on to what is important.The author's remembrances reveal a wisdom far beyond her years, and often moved me to pause and reflect, especially as she tells of heartbreak, fear, hunger and suffering. At the same time, I delighted in her humorous retelling of escapades with friends and siblings in the Mekong Delta, and in her wide-eyed first impressions of America.An all-around great read with something for everyone, I highly recommend this book!

With immigration now the subject of intense debate in America, Oanh Ngo Usadi's extraordinary memoir arrives just in time to remind us of the hopes and dreams and amazing dedication that immigrants harbor as they seek a new life in the U.S. "Of Monkey Bridges and Banh Mi Sandwiches" is a wonderfully written tale of wartime family drama, childhood adventure, harrowing escape, and hard work in a new world. The author has a keen eye for telling details, she is a first-rate storyteller--and she has an excellent sense of humor. Her book is equal parts emotionally satisfying, highly entertaining, and completely inspiring.

This personal story of day to day life in Saigon and the Mekong Delta area of South Vietnam after 1975 and the forbidden exit from Vietnam to the early years of living in and adjusting to America is a great story of putting one foot in front of the other and the courage required to move forward. This book helps me to appreciate my Vietnamese friends even more. I have visited and been through some of the communities mentioned. Not very much of the core day to day reality portrayed has changed over the past 30+ years for the individual farmer/fisherman. I am going to search for other work by this writer. She has a wonderful way of pulling at the strings of your heart.

A wonderfully detailed and personal story of a little girl and her family’s life in Vietnam,, their harrowing journey to America, and their new life pursuing the American dream. This story is so intricate that you can feel as though you lived it with her! Very well done and a great read!

I have just started reading Oanh’s memoir and am finding it riveting. She is a wonderful storyteller and I am learning more about Vietnam through her eyes than I ever learned in history class!

Oanh’s memoir offers a wealth of details that remind me of the adversity and poverty my family had to go through before immigrating to American and becoming citizens. Although Oanh shows readers that the way you look and sound will in many instances, provoke unwanted judgments from others, she also maintains generous acknowledgments and vivid moments of great compassion and kindness from the people she encounters throughout her life. Her poignant descriptions are striking, especially for someone who has scarcely spent any time away from a city: “At the slow down after a step or two, its eyes cast downward and its hide caked with mud. I finally understood the expression referring to the iconic animal of the countryside, ‘Life as hard as that of a water buffalo.’” The narrator conveys her experiences with childlike urgency. Her fear of roaches, annoyance at having to watch guard over her mother’s bicycle while her mother goes to the market, her frustration working at her father’s Bánh Mìsandwich shop, her anxiety and fear on the boat to a refugee camp, as well as in her living room in Texas when her father takes her mother for knee surgery, are all apparent in the narrative. The sincerity and vibrant images with which Oanh tells her story, beautifully portrays her tender relationship with her father, mother, and one of her brothers, Bay. I was also impressed by the way she elucidates a universal struggle among immigrants and non-native speakers: learning a new language. The reader is reminded that adjusting to a new country is not as simple as learning a new language and recognizing its differences to one’s own native language. There are many cultural references and usages one has to be aware of to begin adapting. Even then, the struggles extend far beyond the language barrier. They extend to relationships between children and their parents, children and their siblings, the younger and more adaptable generation’s willingness to help or work with their parents to adjust, among some of the hardships. Oanh’s memoir exhibits a range of emotions, and she does not even leave her own shame out. Her story is one of will. It is through that will, her father’s ambitions, and her family’s absolute devotion to each other that they survive and live fully.

I just finished reading Oanh Ngo Usadi's powerful memoir. Every American and anyone interested in the America immigrant experience should read it. The author's brisk tale of her family's journey from Vietnam to the US in the early 1980s brought tears to my eyes on more than one occasion. It is beautifully written, by turns harrowing, thrilling, transporting, inspiring and deeply moving.I felt so, so bad for the author as a young girl who experienced turbulence and upheaval at a point in life when stability is so valued. I cheered at every milestone - arrival in Malaysia, America, etc. - and every victory, e.g., making a new friend in the US and conquering the complex and quirky English language. The author's portrayals of supporting cast such as her American landlord and a childhood friend in Vietnam were so sharp that I feel as though I have always known them.Most of all, the sense of the strong bonds that invisibly underwrote all of her and her family's extraordinary heroism and admirable fortitude pours from every page. It is not quite true that 'all you need is love' but it sure helps to have it when you are facing tyranny, oppression, hostile elements, poverty, and an unknown future. Ultimately, it is this universal truth that the reader takes from the book and for which the author deserves high praise and credit for sharing.

The Occupy Mars Band is southern California will play sound effects behind this book as it is read to young children in California public libraries. It is a wonderful story to tell children and to explore the golden days of "Old Time Radio." So, we are including this book when we perform the "Occupy Mars Learning Adventures."

I used this to teach The War of the Worlds radio broadcast & the effect of media on the people. At the time, only one child had heard of the broadcast, so the end was a great surprise and sparked thoughtful discussion.The illustrations are also wonderful--their comic book look makes the book even more relevant today. Also fantastic is the bit at the end that gives more of the history and aftermath of the book. And after reading the story, all the kids wanted to know more and were interested in the straight informational text.

Used in after school program. Follow up making images from book or create own.

This is a great book that children of all ages will enjoy!
