Harriss’s book will be a revelation to anyone who knew an infantryman who has served overseas in time of war. He does this by telling real, varied, and unique stories of his year serving the United States as a E-5 Infantry Sargeant in Vietnam 1969! The book is so true and well presented that it should be required reading in the Army’s NCO through General’s schools if for no other reason than to improve understanding and communications between ranks of military leaders in combat.The second, but equally important part of Harris’s book is his account of his own persistent refusal to lose contact with the men he served with and their families. This individual effort led to more organized reunions that seemed to have led to healing experiences for many who participated. This section of the book would be beneficial to anyone concerned about soldiers returning to “The World”!My only regret is Mr. Harris did not write this book sooner so it would have been read by more of his “Vietnam Infantry Brethren”. I know John Harris and truly appreciate what all he did in his military career. He is a true patriot and skilled soldier who would do anything to help a fellow infantryman.While reading his narrative, I felt through John’s writing skills that I was out on patrol or flying in a Huey to rescue downed airmen. During downtime the guys joked and played pickup basketball to relieve stress like most young guys did. The book was well written and informative. I am the same age as John, and after reading this book I was very lucky, and relieved, that I was not drafted during the Vietnam war. I had friends and relatives who were there at the same time, and all, thankfully, came home. Most were reluctant to share their experiences. After reading John’s excellent “diary” it is easy to understand why many who fought there had problems after returning home. This is a great read for anyone who wants to learn, first hand, about one brave man’s story during this time in our history. Thank God, we have men and women in our military like John, who are true patriots, and I am honored to be his friend!

A truly well written account of a young man off to serve his country after being drafted. Never complained, just bucked up and went. It makes you feel like you are right there watching it all through his eyes. Very moving and highly recommended....Perfect gift for Veterans Day!

Excellent read, a great story teller.

A collection of vignettes about a young mans Vietnam experiences.Like many Vietnam vets the author did his duty without whining and lived to tell the story. Sort of like sitting at the kitchen table and comparing notes for many of that generation.

I do a litmus test of all these kinds of study books by going directly to bapt'izo (Baptism). my strongs concordance says, it's a 1989 printed edition says Bapt'izo means to stain or dye. this proves the push to censor the truth. But I can still use this book for study. I'm just aware that there are changes being made to these words over the course of time. I enjoy books 80's and older as they are pretty accurate. I got this book early and have bought a coupe or few books from HPB prior to this and have had nothing but good service and delivery.It is beautifully bound, to mean strong and has red words for the words of Christ as well.

Overall, this is an excellent resource for Bible study and getting a deeper, clearer understanding of God's word. The smaller size is nice for taking with you and fitting on a bookshelf. However, I am pretty much new to Word study. It would really be helpful to have a page or chapter explaining how to fully use this resource. This one volume is not alone, most books like it have the same shortcomings, they rarely tell you how to fully use the book. This is only a minor complaint. Also, as an "old guy", an even slightly larger font would have been really appreciated. I understand because of the restrictions of size the need to condense this as far as practical. It just makes study a little more difficult and tedious when the font is so small for some of us.However, for the most part I am completely satisfied with this purchase and highly recommend it to anyone needing a concordance and word study book.

Word study of the original languages is the key to learning what the Bible actually teaches, not relying on the English or believing that the English is the most accurate representation of the meanings of the words wrote down from God to man

My high school pal and I sneaked off one Friday night to see “Blazing Saddles.” We were 17, which made us ‘legal’ to get into an R-rated film. It still felt like an act of rebellion. Our parents wouldn’t have approved. The campfire scene alone was worth the ticket, but there was so much more.There’s so much more to Mel Brooks, too, and “Funny Man” is a serious biography about a seriously funny man. Behind the talk-show antics and the big-screen parodies is a self-made entertainer who worked hard to achieve and maintain his standing as one of the most reliable laugh-makers around. If dying is hard and comedy is harder – well, the business of comedy is harder still, if Mel’s career is any example.Fueling Mel’s rise from teenage Brooklyn wiseacre to national clown is an out-size ego. The talent hasn’t always been strong enough to support the ego. His career has had plenty of failures amid the enormous hits. But those hits – “Get Smart” in TV, “The 2,000-Year-Old Man” in recordings, “The Producers” on Broadway and a string of movies _ are pretty darn solid.Comedy isn’t all fun and games, and neither is Mel. He covets credit and at times seems to want more than his fair share. He covets the money that laughter generates and at times seems to want more than his fair share. His first shot at being a husband was a misfire and he wasn’t the best ex-husband either. I loved this book. Author Patrick McGilligan tells a great story of Mel Brooks’s life and career. But the book is more than that; it is also a history of American comedic television. I’m a big Brooks fan and I couldn’t put the book down. But there is a darker side to Brooks that McGilligan also describes that is equally as fascinating as Brooks's comedic side. As a biography in general I think this book is well worth reading. But for anyone familiar with Brooks’s work, it is a must read.Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book via Edelweiss for review purposes.

This is a nasty hit job. The author has virtually nothing positive to say about Brooks. He twists every fact, neutral or flattering so as to cast the harshest light on Brooks. On the audiobook, the reader is snide and waspish. Yech.

The bulk of the book is spent selling the idea that she cured herself with diet. But too little information is actually provided. What did she eat, what did she not eat during that time? Did she exercise or avoid it? Any other things contribute? What specifically did she eat? What was the full program her fiancé recommended. Lots of details are missing, as she basically says eat raw veggies and skip meat, poultry, dish, eggs, oil other than Olive oil, sugar, bread/pasta, processed foods, dairy. It is not clear whether she ate none of these things or limited them, and if she recommends doing so on a permanent basis. So it is interesting, but many details are omitted that would be beneficial to the reader.

Hi Dr Goldner, just finished watching Eating you Alive and it was great to hear your story again. You asked that I message you my story so while it could never compare to the severity of your disease, it did effect my way of life and your plan has helped heal me. Here goes ...... I have always tried to exercise and eat well. I always thought I did Ok compared to so many other people and so that was enough. In 2008 my husband passed away from lung cancer and in my grief, my weight plummeted and at the same time I increased my exercise to try to keep depression from my door. I have always loved meat, dairy and sweet foods. While exercising so much I increased my dairy and meat consumption to counter my low iron problem. I remember I felt awful during this time but just put it down to the grief and the exercise. It was in 2013 I started to feel excessive fatigue and really painful muscles. I knew something was wrong and I described the feeling as though I had run a marathon everyday. My skin became super sensitive feeling like it was sunburnt when it wasn't, II wanted to sleep in the daytime and I developed arthritis symptoms and Reynauds syndrome. Iron deficiency (increase your meat they said, so I did) and also menopause (I was 45) were blamed. After advise from a wonderful nurse friend, I went to a Rheumatologist and bloodwork diagnosed Lupus (SLE). I was placed on Plaquenil daily and also the maximum of Anti-inflammatory meds. I don't think they did anything but I was told I must take them to prevent Lupus from becoming worse. I was told this was for life and it would have been had I not found you in January 2017. I read everything you wrote and bought your book. I followed it religiously and immediately I felt better. 10 weeks later and still making smoothies everyday, I am off ALL meds. This is a way of life I will never change. I love my daily smoothies and I love being pain free. I am not tired and my arthritis and Reynauds have gone. Thanks you so much Dr Goldner for taking the time to educate others. I will NEVER eat meat, dairy or eggs again. Plant based all the way. My wish is that others will try this and help themselves or a loved one too!! Thank you thank you thank you.

Goodbye Lupus has valuable information. When someone has a profound truth to proclaim, that author would have far more credibility if she were to hire a competent editor to check for typos, poor grammar and faulty writing in general. It appears that Brooke threw this manuscript together in a hurry and published it without asking someone to proofread it.About 20% of the book contains irrelevant and offensive pictures. Her baby picture and the pictures of her children are adorable, and it's wonderful that she was able to have children after being told she shouldn't. But I paid for content that doesn't apply to what this book should be about. Those of us who have been diagnosed with Lupus are interested in restoring our health, not in posing for swimsuit editions of magazines. Suggestive, provocative poses of the scantily clad author were not helpful. Those pages would have been more encouraging if they had contained testimonies of others who have benefitted from this diet. One person's experience isn't convincing.If you want to read this book, borrow it from the library; don't spend your money on it. A better investment would be Jill Harrington's book, "The Lupus Recovery Diet."
