An exhaustively researched and engaging genealogy of international law. This book is an invaluable resource.

"Imperialism, Sovereignty and the Making of International Law" is a thoughtful and eloquent but very esoteric book about the treatment of non-European peoples in international law. Readers should know that it's not a law book -- it doesn't analyze legal rules or unpack judicial opinions. It's not a history book, either -- the author, Antony Anghie, doesn't chronicle events and did no research in primary sources. Rather, his book is a meandering political and jurisprudential meditation on how the Euro-centric international legal system has been complicit in the subordination of non-Europeans. The text hops from Francisco Vitoria to the Berlin Conference to the League of Nations mandate system to the War on Terror, with little underlying continuity apart from the basic idea that international law has never been neutral.Much of Anghie's thesis is true, but there are gaps in his argument and he uses history selectively. He writes, for example, as if international human rights law was invented by the Bretton Woods institutions to force capitalism on developing countries. He reaches this conclusion only by ignoring the origins of human rights law in the calamity of World War II. He also fails to mention that the most effective human rights instrument in the world -- the European Convention on Human Rights -- is binding only on European countries. To use another example, he cavalierly ignores a huge body of social science showing that institutions and governance matter to development. Instead, he writes as if underdevelopment is caused by a rigged international economic system -- but he doesn't discuss the economic reasoning behind this problematic conclusion.Anghie will give aid and comfort to Third World nationalists who reject international scrutiny of human rights and believe that economic development must be state-directed. This nationalist discourse has been exploited by dictators from Castro to Mugabe and has brought untold ruin on the Third World. It cries out for unmasking by critical thinkers like like Anghie. Alas, he never takes up this job. Justifiably outraged by the hypocrisy and violence of the West, he is blind to the homegrown failures and grotesqueries of the developing world.This wildly overpriced book is for law libraries only.

Emma All Stirred Up! CHAPTER 1 Little Brother, Big Problem My name is Emma Taylor, but a few weeks ago I was wishing it was anything but! I was pretending that the little boy who was outside the school bus, wailing that he did not want to go to day camp, was not my little brother, Jake Taylor, and that those desperate parents who were bribing and pleading with him were not my parents, but rather some poor, misguided souls whom I would never see again. In fact, I was wishing that I was already an adult and that my three best friends and I—the entire Cupcake Club—had opened our own bakery on a cute little side street in New York City, where none of my three brothers lived. The bakery would be all pink, and it would sell piles of cupcakes in a rainbow of lovely colors and flavors, and would cater mainly to movie stars and little girls’ princess birthday parties. That is my fantasy. Sounds great, right? But oh, no, this was reality. “Emmy!” Jake was shrieking as my father gently but firmly manhandled him down the bus aisle to where I was scrunched down on my seat, pretending not to see them. I could literally feel the warmth of all the other eyes on the bus watching us, and I just wanted to melt away. Instead I stared out the window, like there was something really fascinating out there. “Emma, please look after your brother,” said my father. How many times have I heard that one? My older brothers, Matt and Sam, and I take turns babysitting Jake, but somehow the bad stuff always happens on my shift. My dad gave Jake one last kiss, reached to pat me on the head, and then dashed off the bus. I wished I could’ve dashed with him. A counselor sat on the end of the seat, scrunching Jake in between us, so he couldn’t run away. Jake was wailing, and the counselor—a nice girl named Paige, who is about twenty-one years old and probably wishing she were somewhere else too—was speaking in a soothing voice to him. She looked over his head at me, smiled, and then said, “Don’t worry. This happens all the time. We always get one of these guys. He’ll settle down within the week.” The week?! I wanted to die, but instead I nodded and looked out the window again. I also wanted to kill Jake that moment, but it was only seconds later that his wails turned to quiet hiccups. Then he slid his clammy, chubby little hand into mine and squeezed, and I felt a little guilty. “It’s going to be okay, Jake,” I whispered, and squeezed his little hand back. He snuggled into me and looked up at me with these really big eyes that get me every time. It’s not the worst thing in the world to have a little someone in your life who looks up to you. I sighed. “Feeling better, officer?” Jake is big into law enforcement, so it usually cheers him up if we play Precinct. At least he wasn’t crying anymore. Paige gave him a pat on the head and then went to help some other kids get on the bus. But Jake wasn’t feeling better. I could tell just by looking at him. “I feel sick,” he said. Oh no. Jake isn’t one of those kids who fakes being sick. My mom always says on car trips that if Jake says he feels sick, we pull over, because he will throw up, 100 percent of the time. I jerked the bus window open and quickly flung Jake over me, so that he was sitting in the window seat. “Put your head out the window, buddy. Take deep breaths—in through your nose, out through your mouth. We’re going to start moving soon, so the wind will be in your face. … Deep breaths.” I rubbed his back a little and looked up to see if anyone I knew was getting on at this stop. My best friend and co–Cupcake Clubber Alexis Becker was going to the same camp, but her parents were dropping her off on their way to work. I fantasized about them driving me, too, and leaving Jake to his own devices. Ha! As if my parents would let me get away with that! At the very least, I did have our Cupcake Club meeting to look forward to later today. Just quality girl time, planning out the club’s summer schedule and reviewing the cupcake jobs we had coming up. Chilling with my best friends—Alexis, Katie, and Mia—and brainstorming. It was definitely going to be fun. A bunch of little kids streamed on and sat mostly in the front of the bus. Suddenly I spied a familiar shade of very bright blond hair, and my stomach sank. Noooo!!! It couldn’t be. But it was. Sydney Whitman, mean-girl extraordinaire and head of the imaginatively named Popular Girls Club at school, came strolling down the aisle, heading straight for the back row, where only the most popular kids dared to sit. I quickly looked out the window and pretended I hadn’t seen her. But no luck. “Oh, that’s so cute! You and your little brother sitting together! I guess that’s easier than trying to find someone your own age to sit with?” She smiled sweetly, but her remark stung just as it was meant to. Jake hates Sydney as much as I do, if not more, so when he turned his head to look at her, he began to gag. Sydney’s eyes opened wide, and her hand flew up to cover her mouth. “Oh no! He’s going to—” Luckily, Jake turned to the window just in time and hurled the contents of his stomach out onto the road. “Disgusting!” shrieked Sydney, and she fled to the back of the bus. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. It’s just one more nail in the coffin of my possible popularity, not that I ever really stood a chance. And not that I really wanted to. But it was also kind of hilarious to have Jake take one look at Sydney and then throw up. Definitely not her desired effect on men. I made a mental note to tell the Cupcake Club later. They’d love this. Jake barfed a couple more times and then sat back down, looking as white as a sheet. The good news about Jake’s car sickness is that after he’s done throwing up, he’s always fine. I pulled a napkin from my lunch bag and gave it to him to wipe his face. Then I cracked open his thermos and gave him a tiny sip of apple juice. I felt sorry for the poor guy. I hate throwing up. Jake smiled wanly. “Thanks, Emmy. Sorry.” I laughed. “I feel the same way when I see Sydney Whitman.” I wasn’t sure I would have been so psyched about going to this camp if I’d known Sydney was going—or at the very least that she’d be on my bus. It definitely put a cramp in my happiness. Jake rested his head back against the seat and promptly fell asleep. In a minute his head was resting, sweaty and heavy, against my shoulder. First days can be hard for anyone, especially little kids. At least tomorrow we wouldn’t have the same problem. I said a silent prayer that Sydney wasn’t in my group. At camp, we got off the bus and a crowd of cheering counselors with painted faces was there to greet us. My mom must’ve called ahead to tip off someone, because one really pretty counselor was holding up a sign, like people do at the airport. It read OFFICER JAKE TAYLOR. That at least allowed me to peel him off and hand him over to the counselor, so I could go with my group, Team Four, to our rally zone (whatever that was) at the arts-and-crafts center. The boys and girls have separate areas at camp, so I wouldn’t see Jake again all day, thank goodness. And thank goodness again, because Sydney headed off with Team Five in the opposite direction. I didn’t have a minute to review who was on whose team. Anyway, I didn’t know a lot of the kids, but I did know that wherever Alexis was, she and I would be together. (We requested it, and my mom promised me she had spoken with the camp director.) That’s all that matters. As I headed across the green lawn to the arts-and-crafts center, I heard someone calling my name. I turned, and, of course, it was Alexis! I had never been so happy to see her in all my life. “Thank goodness!” I cried, and threw my arms around her, like a shipwreck victim who has finally been saved. Alexis isn’t much for big displays of affection, so she patted my back awkwardly, but I didn’t mind. In any case, she just saw me a few days ago. “What’s going on?” she asked as we separated and followed our counselor. “Jake drama. Screaming, puking—the whole deal.” I lowered my voice. “And Sydney Whitman saw the whole thing.” Alexis waved her hand in the air, as if to say whatever! That is just one of the many things I love about Alexis. She doesn’t care at all what other people think. “Too bad he didn’t puke on her,” she said with a laugh. “Or did he?” Her eyes twinkled mischievously. “No such luck. But the good news is, we aren’t on the same team as her.” We’d reached the log cabin that was the headquarters for our team. On its porch stood two teenage counselors—a guy and a girl. As the crowd amassed in front of them, I counted twelve campers: all girls, of course. Yay! Finally! A break from all the boys in my life! “Hello, people! Listen up!” The guy counselor was clapping his hands and kind of dancing around in a funny way to get our attention. Everyone started laughing and listening. He bowed and said, “Thank you, ladies! My name is Raoul Sanchez, and this is my awesome partner, Maryanne Murphy.” Maryanne did a little curtsy, and we all clapped. She was pretty—short and cute with red hair and freckles. Raoul was tall and thin with rubbery arms and legs, and his face had a big goofy smile topped off by black, crew-cut hair. It was obvious neither of them was shy. “We are going to have the most fun of any team this summer! Raoul and I personally guarantee it!” Maryanne said enthusiastically. Raoul nodded. “If this isn’t the most fun summer of your life, when camp is over I will take you to an all-you-can-eat pizza party, on me.” There were cheers and claps. “Okay, we have a lot to tell you, so why don’t you all grab a seat on the grass and get ready to be pumped!” said Maryanne. Raoul and Maryanne then proceeded to tell us how we’d get to pick our own team name. (“Team Four” was just a placeholder, they said.) They told us about all the fun activities we’d do: swimming, kayaking, art projects, team sports, field trips, tennis, and more. Then they told us about the special occasions that were scheduled: Tie-Dye Day, Pajama Day, Costume Day, Crazy Hat Day, and finally, the best day of all … Camp Olympics, followed by the grand finale: the camp talent show! Ugh. The camp talent show? Getting onstage in front of more than a hundred people? So not up my alley. I made a face at Alexis, but she was listening thoughtfully, her head tilted to the side and her long reddish hair already escaping its headband. She was probably wondering if there was any money to be made here; business was mostly all she thought about. In fact, her parents said if she did an outdoor camp for part of the summer, she could go to business camp for two weeks at the end of the summer. Sometimes I wonder how we are friends at all; our interests are so different! “Thinking of signing up?” I whispered. “Myself? No. But you should,” she whispered back. I laughed. “Yeah, right. Highly recommend this series. My granddaughter (10 ur old) read the entire series in just a few months. Would finish a few and wanted to read more and more.

I bought two of this book for my two granddaughters. They are both 8 years old and love this series. It is set for middle school children but said 8 year olds could read it.I would recommend this series for 8 year olds and older.

My daughter loved the book, it has an intersting theme and supports good values.

I've been programming professionally for about 18 years now, and have programmed in most of the main programming languages. I'm currently the lead developer and owner of a web design shop. I picked up this eBook, looking for a good resource for new hires - and was very happily surprised with the depth and knowledge within these pages. Mr. Clark does a terrific job introducing programming in general, comparing the main programming languages and then covering the basics of programming - the universal concepts that are shared across all languages. Each programming language will have its own syntax and nuances but having a resource that introduces and explains the core concepts with basic examples is extremely useful. I'll be recommending this eBook no any developer just starting out, even if they've been in it for a few years.Easy to read and covers a lot of ground!

A good refresher for terms and basic operations and it explains in great detail about the various different kinds of code and how they work and it also gives you a nice background knowledge on the coding language. But as far as I see my fascination how everything works will be short lived and my mere interest for reading this book was to learn about coding and java programming and i saw the title said beginners guide so I figured to give it a shot and this book didnâ€™t fail me and itâ€™s very easy to understand and i know that it is better to master one programming language than to know a little of everything and this book has helped me to figure out which among those programming languages I should focus on and this is the great thing about this book and it gives you a glimpse of the syntax and features of different programming languages and it is important for us recruiter to understand their work and little about their language and i like how this book is written and the writer really tries his best to explain the terminologies in layman's term so it is easy to understand and this book is a must read book as an introduction to programming and i wish when I was taking a computer class I would have had this book then and i can now code without any problem at all and this study guide counts with a lot of examples and step by step guides, explaining basic programming examples as well as more complicated stuff.

This is very a good introductory book that isn't specific to one particular language, however, it does give examples in a couple of the more popular languages (i.e. Java and C#). There are a few typos throughout the book, but it's more about the information that's inside than just a few misspelled words or grammatical errors. I've done some programming before, but I always wanted a better understanding of what it was that I was doing, and most of the people who I learned from weren't able to clearly explain what exactly I was doing. Nathan Clark does a very good job of explaining many of the things I had been struggling with for years. I won't say it's perfect, and it may not be for everyone, but for me, it works.

This book aims to help those without any programming knowledge get up to speed quick. If you need to fill in gaps of your knowledge, itâ€™s a quick refresher too. This book also has examples to illustrate its points. It is not language specific. There were some minor spelling errors but it did not interfere with comprehension of the material.For me personally, I hit a wall in my learning of JavaScript and Python. Other lessons just didnâ€™t go deep enough especially on the symbols, statements, or functions. Now I understand a lot better and have started applying what Iâ€™ve learned.

This book, is for people who are beginners, an want to start programming, though it tells several different types and kinds of programming, and give the examples on them. I would suggest you examining it careful, or re-read it more than once. It does point to several books , which kind of programming you need to learn or know. You might need a couple types of programs, to do different kinds of programming.

Mr. Clark is the go-to source for anything programming related. He instructs and shows examples explaining his work without being smarmy.I like how he allows for growth and improvement with his books. There is not just one way to program. He also offers sampling from his buffet of books available to help if you're thirsty for more knowledge on programming and it's various forms.Highly recommended!

I thought some of the examples in the book were fascinating and I was not aware of several of the different programming options. Great resource recommend it.

I practice attachment parenting b/c that it the way feel most natural to me. I use many of the advices from Dr. Sear for all of my 3 kids. I have all girls 5,7,10. I don't want to brag about my kids here as I think the results of any parenting method can't really be measure until much later in life. Whether they will grow up as well ground adults with healthy life styes, successful career, happy individual, & a great contributor to human life....but for now, I can tell you that I'm very proud of my children at this ages & we are a very happy loving family. I don't "spoil" my kids as contrary to many incorrect perception about parenting. We try to provide a loving but structure environment for our children.Dr. Sear offer many great advice in this book & I used it in those days that my kids were babies age. We co-sleep & I nurse my kids. My baby was nurse until she almost 3. They are all very independent now & have their own rooms, which they took care really well. I almost NEVER let my babies cry & always pick them up to comfort them, my kids are great sleepers now, all we do at night is tuck them in with good night kisses, they wake up to use the rest room by themselves. Every once in a while, we allow them to sleep in our beds & that is a special treat.Except travelling for work, my husband & I NEVER take a vacation without the kids. We rather travel with other family friends so we have the adults companies & the kids have friends their ages to. We enjoy our kids companies & they love ours.If you don't use all the advice in this book, you can still benefit from reading it & maybe apply someMy mom use the "tough love" method on me . I turn out fine but I always secretly wish she was more gentle with me.So there is no right or wrong, just practice what you believe in your loving heart & hopefully we will raise the next generation of great human, loving & giving :-)

I found this book to clearly and simply convey everything I would most want to transmit to new parents about what is most critical in enabling babies and toddlers to thrive for the long-term through optimal attachment to parents. I have studied the neuroscience of this, which is very impressive and convincing, but not particularly readable unless you are scientifically or psychologically oriented (if so, the work of Allan Shore, PhD is inspiring). Sears makes this invaluable model accessible for the day by day experience of a new, or new-to-attachment, parent, answering many questions that are likely to come up; and laying out practical details for implementing it. With his expertise as a pediatric physician and his hands-on experience, with his wife, of raising eight children, practicing attachment for many years, his advice feels grounded and trustworthy. Other reviewers have commented that it is repetitious but I would describe that as reinforcing and clarifying the most essential intentions and practices of this system. As a child therapist and parent, I cannot say enough about how important healthy attachment is for the deep well-being and development of a child. Sears' book is a great tool for bringing it to life in your own family.

I bought this book after researching Attachment parenting and quite agreeing with many of the philosophies. I still agree with the general idea of the book; however, this book has a defensive tone as if they are trying to convince someone to try their parenting method who has previously criticized it. It was annoying to have to read over and over again phrases in which the author validated himself. I was also disappointed that it often referred to "many research studies" or "experience says" without actually citing any evidence or research studies. (Occasionally they did cite a study or two.) Honestly, their points were weak and unsupported. I don't necessarily disagree with the author, but he hardly told me anything I didn't already know. There is a whole chapter on breastfeeding, but the chapter focuses mostly on the benefits of breastfeeding instead of strategies to make it successful - this was pretty common throughout the book. I wish it talked more about how to implement their parenting strategy instead of just defending it and listing its benefits.

If you own The Baby Book or really any of the other books from the Sears library don't bother buying this book, all of this information is repeated throughout their other books. Otherwise, it is a good introduction to attachment parenting, although most of the principals were very intuitive to me so I felt like it was a waste of money. But I'm very glad I bought The Baby Book, it has some basic information on a wide variety of subjects.

Will teach you to trust yourself & your baby. Teaches you to go with what you believe. It was recommended to me by a developmental professor I had, while studying psychology. Best book recommendation I ever received, as it is helping me raise my little human.

The authors are encouraging and reassuring. They encourage parents to listen to their guts and instinct, intuition;. I like that. It really is a common sense way of parenting that has been around as long as humans have. Science is now backing up what parents have always felt in their gut and this book encourages. Well worth the investment of time and money to read. Happy parents, happy baby.

I really like the ideas on parenting in this book but a lot of it is just common sense. Maybe that's just me because of how I was raised. 4 stars because I like it but most of it isn't terribly insightful.

Could not put it down; read until my eyes closed, and picked it up again as soon as they opened. Excellent writer and researcher who went well out of his way to create this and left absolutely no stone unturned. A brilliant work. Books like these inspire me to be a better editor.

Dead Mountain is a well-researched, and respectful book about the Dyatlov Pass incident that took the lives of nine young Russian university students in February of 1959. The mystery around the tragedy is an engrossing one that has been much sensationalized over the years. Film-maker Donnie Eichar cuts through the sensationalism to present a sober investigation into what really happened.At the height of the Cold War and Soviet Union power, ten students of the Ural Polytechnic Institute Hiking Club took off on an expedition to Otorten Mountain in the northern Urals. All were experienced winter hikers and mountaineers, especially their leader, Igor Dyatlov. When they failed to return after three weeks, a search was launched. The initial search party found their empty tent and no sign of the hikers. All indications were that the tent had been abandoned in panic. Then, after some weeks of searching, the bodies were found."Their bodies were eventually found roughly a mile away from their campsite, in separate locations, half-dressed in subzero temperatures. Some were found facedown in the snow; others in fetal position; and some in a ravine clutching one another. Nearly all were without their shoes." (p 23)One of their group, Yuri Yudin, had turned back, well before the tragedy occurred, due to a bout of pain from his chronic rheumatism, making him the only survivor.So what could have happened to drive these young people out into a dark night of howling winds in below-zero temperatures? Thatâ€™s the mystery that has prompted horror stories about the incident and that drives the narrative of Dead Mountain.I have to admit that the mystery as outlined in the book blurbs grabbed my imagination. I had never heard of the incident and so wanted to know what it was all about, and why it was little known in the West. The bookâ€™s author, Donnie Eichar, is a director and producer of film work for MTV. He also became enamored with the story and determined to resolve the mystery. His research led him to literally retrace the hikersâ€™ steps into the Urals in winter. He was the first American to do so.Mr. Eicharâ€™s prose is well-written and keeps up the tension of the mystery as he takes us with him on his investigation. The narrative alternates between his research and the story of the hikers as recorded in their group diary and photographs. These photographs are readily found on the Internet and I referred to them often as I read Dead Mountain. Many of them are included in the book.Through the diary and photos the hikers are revealed as smart, well-adjusted young people with a love for life and the outdoors. Their last hike was to earn them a certification that would allow them to teach mountain hiking. So they knew what they were doing. There was one 37 year-old among the group, but the rest were all under 24. They were interested in two-way radios (the geek equivalent of personal computers for the time), hard science (they were engineering and physics majors), and the possibilities for love and romance (especially the two young women). The photos show a lot of college-student clowning and the diary indicates their excitement for their adventure. Accounts from the people that encountered them along their way are all positive as to their demeanor and attitudes.Tension builds as Mr. Eichar recounts the groupsâ€™ final expedition. He tells us enough of the hikersâ€™ personal lives that we get to know them as individuals. We feel their youthful friendships, hopes, and concerns. We struggle with them as they work out the logistics of their trip, and feel the pathos in Yuriâ€™s early parting with them, expecting to reunite in a weekâ€™s time.Tension also builds in the account of Mr. Eicharâ€™s own journey to retrace the hikersâ€™ steps and so gain clues as to what happened to them. He has to deal with a language barrier and his own journey logistics. Being from Florida, he has little experience of mountains and none of sub-zero cold. On top of all this, he makes a search for the lone surviving member of the Dyatlov group, Yuri Yudin.I found Dead Mountain to be engrossing and hard to put down. Mr. Eichar keeps his prose moving, interesting, and relevant. Internet photos enhance the book, but I found the autopsy photos disturbing. The driving force of the book, however, is the mystery: what happened to hikers? UFOs? Yeti? Bandits? All have been proposed as solutions. After examining all the evidence he could gather, Mr. Eichar comes up with his own idea about what happened.The last chapter of Dead Mountain is Mr. Eicharâ€™s reconstruction of the events of the hikersâ€™ last night. The scenario he describes is, in my opinion, probably very close to the truth.I think Dead Mountain is a good exercise in how to approach and to think about a stubborn mystery, especially one with paranormal overtones. It indicates the kind of open-minded work required to get to the bottom of things (whether you think Mr. Eichar did or not). In the end, it is a reminder of the tragedies in this world, and of nine promising young people who were taken out of it much too early.

By no means the definitive book on the Dyatlov Incident, so I'm not sure where all these 5-star reviews come from. Do yourself a favor and read the 3-4 other reviews by people who know what a well-researched book should look and sound like before you purchase.OVERALL: The book does a nice job humanizing the members of the group, however chapters are split between the Dyatlov group's trip, and the author's own trip back to Russia to research it. The author is very much the "star" of the narrative, and 50% of the book is the author's own journey in Russia, so be warned if that's not your thing!I didn't mind this at first... and found the first 60-70% of the book fairly well done (in the way a Readerâ€™s Digest article about something fascinating can suck you in), but the author finishes his journey at the site of the tent...and that's about all the insight you are given into his personal experience. Did Eichar sleep on the mountain? No. Did he explore the location of the cedar tree and the ravine? We are left to assume no. Did he partake in any kind of scientific analysis or measurements of the area? Nope. So even the "personal narrative" aspect is unresolved. Not to mention Eichar rode a snowmobile to/from the location...not exactly similar to what the hikers experienced.THE THEORY (spoiler alert!...not that it matters, really): The book simply ends with Eichar putting forth his own theory about the cause of the hikers' demise: infrasound. And it comes across as so rushed and with such scant supporting evidence, you are left unconvinced and disappointed. We should believe this because a scientist in Colorado noticed that Kholat Syakhl has a dome-shape?The author does not provide even a single real-life instance in which similar mountain weather conditions have caused human beings to behave in this manner (i.e. being driven so "insane" by a vortex/infrasound they would cut through/abandon a tent, and walk a mile away from it barefoot in the snow), or ANY other real-life cases of a vortex + infrasound occurring in winter mountains. There is not a single interview with any individual who has first-hand experienced this phenomenon. There are also no interviews with area hikers to inquire if such a phenomenon has ever been experienced by any other local camping on Kholat Syakhl.THE LACK OF EVIDENCE:-no map or diagram of the area of the tent, the cedar tree, ravine, and positions of the bodies-no in-depth discussion, pictures, or diagrams of the footprints found in the snow (yet Eichar insists in his theory the hikers were split up into 3 groups and separated BEFORE reaching the tree line. What supports this? A discussion of the footprints, how they were found, logged, and photographed by the search team would have been critical.)-no autopsy photographs, diagrams, or comprehensive description of the injuries found on each hiker. I find this omission the most egregious. Eichar asks us the accept his version of events, without describing how it aligns with the specific injuries to each hiker (these photos are readily available online, so why the laziness in omitting a discussion of them?)-no photographs, detailed discussion, or first-hand accounts by search party members of the "ravine." What did it look like? Why does Eichar automatically assume that 3 of the hikers fell into the ravine when they had limited bruising/soft tissue damage? He presents no specific evidence yet states Kolya was being carried?-no mention or discussion of the "ice cave" made by the hikers and found at the ravine, in which wood had been gathered for a fire that had never been lit?SUMMARY: I began by thinking this was a fairly well researched book, and certainly Eichar has put in a some time to interview surviving family members as well as the expedition's "sole survivor," but make no mistake, this is a humanistic (essentially amateurish) account of this fascinating incident, and not a scholarly or scientific one.The book has no citations and no bibliography, and Eichar's quick summary at the end of what he thinks happened reads like lazy armchair detective work.This amazing story deserves a much better book.

This is a well written book that describes the nature of the culture wars ripping the American culture. Youseff describes the holistic nature of both Islam and atheistic secular humanism and their common goal of destroying any semblance of Christianity within America. While he presents the problem facing America well, I think his proposed solutions are somewhat weak in that he only addresses working personally with our Muslim neighbors to win them to Christ. There is a public policy angle that he did not address which is typical of most Christian leaders. While we need to love these people we also need to realize the truly devout are not our friends. They are here to destroy Christianity as well as Western civilization. The reality is that Islam was turned back numerous times through warfare. If Christians had not fought off previous attempts by Islam to completely take over Europe and the world we would all be Muslims today, or at least slaves under Islam. The book would have been stronger if the author addressed how Christians should deal with public policy addressing the spread of Islam and the threat it poses for our neighbor's welfare. Lack of biblical answers regarding the role of Christians in public policy issues is a weakness found in most Christian books dealing with the culture war. If the author would have addressed this badly needed area of Christian ethics, the book would have been much stronger and filled a badly needed vacuum in Christian practical knowledge. Still, it is a good introductory resource for Christians unfamiliar with these issues and I highly recommend people to buy copies for a Sunday school class and for their church leaders.

Enlightening. I didn't see the difference between Christianity and Islam. I always understood Islam to mean peace. I didn't truly know that some have and are taught a their hidden agenda. I loved the explanation of the correlation between old testament history and today's time and actions. I always knew history repeats itself, but I never thought of it in these terms. I would recommend this book to all Christians and Americans who are concerned for our country. We must put God first where he belongs and work toward living his truth.

This book brought attention to what's going on in this country that is so divided. Only prayers will return America again to the GOD who has blessed and protected this Country since its inception

Michael Youssef show is in this book just how we, as Christians, are to witness to our Muslim brothers. The radical Islamist are not seeking truth, but the truth of the gospel is what we must share. This is a book that needs to be read by all evangelicals.

My husband, who doesn't read books often, was very impressed with the content of the book. He said it was such a good overview of what is really happening in our world and told me it was a must read.

This book had me hooked from the introduction. I learned a lot about the Muslim religion and about myself. What a wonderful resource to reference again and again. I intend to read other selections by this author.

It's right on! The biggest problem is that people who are unaware of the cultural and spiritual dangers America faces are probably not going to readthe book.

Great book, Dr Youssef's writing is clear concise and up to date.
