This book does exactly what is proclaimed by its title, it’s a pretty comprehensive NexStar user’s guide. If that’s the reason you want to make the purchase, you’ll be ok. But keep that in mind.The fact is, The author does his best to provide proper guidance. One can almost feel the his effort. And, that is my primary objection.....he tries to do too much.Indeed, there are many, many Celestron scope/mount combos that bare the label, “NexStarâ€. And the author makes a valid attempt to provide instructions for each and every one. In doing so, it is only natural that the info would be spread thin, with many lists concerning the proper way to use the mount to achieve a desired result.Because of the large volume of equipment that bare the NexStar name, I had to comb page after page to follow the instructions concerning my particular NexStar scope/mount combo. As far as I could discern, the instructions were correct and informative. But after a while, it becomes a laborious chore to follow along.The author does his best, to keep the reader interested. He tries to convey his enthusiasm for the product line. And that is what a reader would expect. However, there are only so many step by step processes one can endure.I believe this is a good referance book. One you keep on the shelf, only opened when needed. It’s use is similar that of your car manual. So, don’t buy this book expecting to enjoy the read...that’s unlikely to happen.If u buy it, be prepared to put it on the shelf, only to be opened in specific incidents.
My original copy is 10 years old and well used. The digital copy should weather better. For me, this is must read stuff for Celestron NexStars. I started with the NexStar 8i and now have the 9.25" CPC. I knew nothing and no one. Star parties are great but essentially everyone tends to there own equipment and you must learn to do the same. Well intentioned "misinformation" will cost money, time and grief. For me, telescopes, equipment and associated toys are expensive. This book helped me master my equipment and greatly complimented the manufactures manual. It is still my main reference bible and really, not a bad read. Also, there is a web site which updates this material and I recommend both for the starter.
Greetings,Very well written, but like everything that is computer operated by software or firmware, its guide books quickly become out dated.I just purchased a Celestron 6" refractor with an Advance VX GOTO mount. Save for a few tips and some operational myths dispelled, I was always reading about someone else's instrument. The Nexstar resource pages the author still operates online is perhaps more relevant and up-to-date.I'd pass on the book though unless you have purchased a used GOTO from 2000 - 2005.
This is a complete handbook for your Celestron telescope , it covers all you need to know plus additional good to know info ,however to my knowledge it would be great if they would update it ,otherwise ,great to have book
If you have a Celestron Nexstar series scope then this book is one of the best buys you can get yourself. Besides that, it's a nice little refresher on the generals of astronomy and ways to make the hobby more rewarding and enjoyable for yourself and others. It was better than I expected and at the time I bought it I had two Nexstars that I was toying around with, and this book helped me make the best use of both of them! Also a nice little Celestron history lesson!
This is a real review, I paid full price for this itemeven if you're not a complete noob to astronomy, this book is absolutely fantastic. lots of very useful information, hints, and lots of information you would not know unless you have many years of experience working with nexstar equipment. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone before spending any money on a telescope or accessories, it'll save you a lot of money by keeping you from buying stuff you don't really need
This book is a extended manual for Nexstar celestron telescopes, It does not include my model that is a 6i but the information is useful. It has a lot of tips to buy, install, use a take care about the telescope. I recommended this book specially for the beginner
This review is only for owners of NexStar telescopes, or those thinking about purchasing one. If you are not in this class of people, then there are other books that you might rather consider.I was, frankly, a little disappointed with this book. I was looking for something that was chock full of "secret tips" on how to use my NexStar telescope, but found that there were few tips available. Much of the information was general information about astronomical topics that an experienced amateur astronomer might already know. It did, however, contain some information specific to the NexStar scopes. And, I did learn some general things that I had not known before. So, if you are a NexStar owner, you spent a good deal of money on your telescope and this is an excellent first accessory, especially if you are a beginner in stargazing.So, why do I give such a lukewarm review to a book that I awarded five stars?? Well, if you are a NexStar owner, you should know about the web site that author Swanson runs, The NexStar Resource Site, [...]. If you are a NexStar owner and this is the first that you have heard of this site, then you owe it to yourself to check it out!! It has a wealth of current information that you will want to refer to from time to time. So, buy Mr. Swanson's book, if for no other reason than to support his site. And, you may learn some valuable things from the book to boot!
